I was a bit discombobulated but took it in stride… but for a woman who came to the states at least in part to escape precisely this sort of weather, Wyla was not pleased. It took everything I had not to laugh as I watched her steaming… though I think she noticed anyway. Not sure how, but I just had that feeling.

I realize not only is the post late, but it’s simple. We have our reasons. The first is that for the last month or so one or more of us has been out of commission and not always the same one.

Much of this is my fault, but we’ll skip that because well, I’m writing the blog.

We recently attended ESG in Vegas, all three of us. That was last weekend and believe me, it was interesting in so many ways.

A few weeks before THAT, Wyla and I went camping together in Zion National Park. Being from Texas I had no idea when we were preparing for the trip that I should check the elevation above sea level this park hangs out at. To make a long story short, it was a LITTLE bit cooler than either Wyla or I had prepared for. To explain the comic: on our trip to Bryce we went even higher, and I had taken two pair of socks because the boots I was wearing pretty much require them on longer hikes. I hadn’t had time to put the second pair on before we left because well, the cold had made us a bit reluctant to get out of our sleeping bags.

When I saw Wyla blowing into her cupped hands to keep them warm… my first response was NOT, “Gee I should give her this extra pair of socks I’ve been wearing like little redneck mittens to keep my hands warm.”

It was somewhere around my third thought, but by then she had already decided that my being an insensitive prick deserved a memorial.

There may be a few more of these little bit comics coming in here in the next few weeks by way of apology for falling behind and because this was NOT the only amusing moment to be had during our trips. I may also upload a parody we did while in Vegas of the little porn cards those of you who have been out on the strip are so familiar with. (They’re pushed on you regardless of whether or not your girl/boy/other is on your arm, thus opening up the potential for a shattering of domestic tranquility at virtually every intersection from MGM to the Venetian.)

I may have to consult with Wyla and DT on that, because due to the nature of the material it parodies, it is a bit racy. We shall see!

So, yeah, do we know how to kick off a new chapter or what?   We found it more exciting if we kept this page on the down low ’til it was done. Briggs comes off as more of the quiet and calculated type, that’s for sure. He’s always wrapped up in his own head. Seems to me that didn’t prevent a certain someone with the right set of curves wearing practically a spandex space suit to end up clouding his thoughts and replacing them with naughty little ideas.

Oh, and here’s a fun little tidbit, there actually is a scene that reveals how this intimate ‘incident’ happened. Oh, yes, DT does not lie. Maybe if you kids ask Uncle Ceb real nicely, you may get to find out what happened the night before.

New Incentive is up! I know the timing is crap considering there are only a few days left in the month but quite frankly, I don’t care. The image is hot and DT and I wanted to share. So go vote!

So we’ve made it and a new chapter begins to unfold! (Enter your ‘oooohs’ and ‘aaahhhs’ now please) It’s a subtle opening, yes, but I felt it necessary to give you guys a chance to breathe and fill your lungs in now, ’cause what’s in store within the next few pages will leave you gasping and possibly breathless. So enjoy the calm and beautiful at the moment, I know I am. I would also like to apologize and say that I, DT, cannot draw anything mecha or mecha related. DT fails horribly at that. The space station was salvaged by Wy’s brilliant coloring skills, I’m quite sure of it. The ship? That’s the Osprey, Haley’s ship…it’s sooo teeny back there you can’t see the sad design – yay for that! Give me creatures, sexy thangs, and wardrobe, I’m your…err…man. Tell me to design a space craft and a station to go along with it, well, then prepare to witness as DT just lays on the floor in the fetal position and eventually through the tears draws what you see before you. Ah, well, we all have our weak points. This is one of mine.

With that being said, hope all is well in life. Give a big hand to Wy for doing a superb job coloring and bringing the image to life, and for Ceb, whose at home visiting the folks at the moment (enter ‘awwww’ here).

About the image, well, for a while now I’ve been wanting to do covers for the chapters. Being the comic geek that I am, I always loved the cover art above all else, so it seemed fitted that I should do the same for our little comic. It was nice to get elbows deep into a drawing and do something in color! LOL Not that I don’t enjoy doing line work and Wy has been doing more then just a fab job coloring the pages for print, it’s just nice to…paint something every now and then I’ve had this sketch lying around for awhile and I thought it was about time to dust it off and finish the piece. It was an interesting process determining an appropriate pose that served well for all characters – something that allowed their personalities to come through. I think, well I hope, I did that fairly well. Oh, and uh…yes, they are standing in the doorway of an elevator. A jab at myself for making them…”trapped” inside many moons ago, heh.

With that I say, sit tight and buckle in kids, ’cause what we have in store for you next chapter is gonna make things hell’a interesting. I’m excited!! *rubs her hands together*

In other news, I saw the Hobbit and while having recently read the book I noted several deviations, most of them were harmless and quickly resolved themselves to the main storyline which preserves the essence of the narrative very well. There were a few moments of Peter Jackson camp though that caused a skyward glance. One thing I did heartily approve of was that some of the songs were preserved, but my FAVORITE song was not. Just a little off week doodle whipped up based around my habit of… well, really liking what my artists produce.

Ahem. Anyway. Adding a touch of plot thickener this week and I am ridiculously happy to report that our team is in danger of having a comic buffer in place soon which might, given trends continue, allow us to in the relatively near future go to a weekly posting schedule. Nonspecific? Yes. Yay? yay. Good? Get on with it.

Thanks to all of y’all who kept us company during our occasional comic streams over the past few days. If there’s a hue and cry we may see if we can’t find a widget to put on the page that would let people know when one or more of us is live. (Usually it’ll be Wyla doing the coloring it being that watching me write makes for crap tv and Dream Taker lives on the ass end of civilization without a connection stable enough to support streaming.)

What else is troubling me… oh yes, as always, VOTE! There should be a fresh incentive up!

This one was actually in my hands shortly after midnight but… I was asleep shortly after midnight so yeah.

And yes, the moment SOME of you have been waiting for. That is INDEED Nikki. Reference the very first page of the comic. Some of you may be confused as to why she’s gone Tron on you, well, bear in mind that we’re looking at Nikki at home, not Nikki abroad, as you last saw her. Confused? I understand. But I assure you the pieces are coming together and there is a good reason for the technology and perception gaps.

I’m not crazy, just shifty.

Incidentally some of you may have noticed the enhanced backgrounds and shading. This is because we have added to the artist roster! I have TWO lovely ladies working on this comic for me! Dream Taker does the lines and concept work whilst Wyla does the coloring and shading!

Why yes, so it is. Here at BtV we are planning ahead. We’d like to eventually recoup some of the costs of running the comic with Merch, and for those of you interested in a hardcopy version of the comic we figured it’d be nice to give a little something extra… so… color. I may even post a teaser of said color as a vote incentive… if I can get hold of one of my artists. This is truly an international comic folks. DT is in Cali, Wyla is in York (not NEW York… OLD York) and I, dear readers, am in the depths of he… er… Kuwait.
